The legislative advocacy program leverages legislative mechanisms to advance the interests of Uganda's creative sector
We identify and address barriers that impede the growth and sustainability of Uganda’s creative sector. This involves a thorough examination of current laws and regulations to assess their relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with the needs and aspirations of cultural practitioners and stakeholders. Through comprehensive legislative analysis, UGAPAFOCI then identify areas for reform or amendment, with the ultimate goal of creating a conducive legal environment that supports the vibrant growth of the creative industries.
Key areas of focus include:
- Reviewing and amending copyright and intellectual property laws to protect the rights of creators and encourage innovation and creativity.
- Reforming licensing and regulatory frameworks to streamline processes and reduce barriers to entry for cultural entrepreneurs and practitioners.
- Advocating for the allocation of government resources and funding to support the development and promotion of the creative industries.
- Addressing legal barriers to cultural exchange and collaboration, both domestically and internationally, to foster a dynamic and interconnected creative ecosystem.
