UGAPAFOCI convened a Stakeholder Consultative Meeting aimed at critically reviewing the National Culture Policy of Uganda. This significant gathering brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including cultural leaders, policymakers, artists, scholars, and representatives from civil society organizations. The objective of the meeting was to solicit valuable input and insights from stakeholders across various sectors to inform the revision and enhancement of the National Culture Policy.
During the consultative meeting, participants engaged in robust discussions and deliberations on key aspects of the current National Culture Policy. They examined its strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and opportunities, with a particular focus on aligning the policy with contemporary cultural realities, promoting inclusivity, and addressing emerging challenges facing Uganda’s cultural sector.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to share their perspectives, experiences, and recommendations for strengthening the National Culture Policy to better serve the needs and aspirations of Uganda’s diverse cultural communities. Participants highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting Uganda’s rich cultural heritage, supporting cultural practitioners, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration, and harnessing the potential of culture for sustainable development.
UGAPAFOCI emphasized the importance of inclusivity and participation in the policy review process, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders, including marginalized groups and underrepresented communities, are heard and considered. The forum underscored its commitment to facilitating a transparent, participatory, and consultative approach to policy development, guided by principles of cultural diversity, equity, and social justice.
Moving forward, the insights and recommendations gathered from the Stakeholder Consultative Meeting will inform the revision and enhancement of the National Culture Policy, guiding future strategies and initiatives aimed at promoting cultural development, preservation, and innovation in Uganda.
